Art In Public Places teams up with Mural Mania in Lyons NY.

Muralists Corky Goss and Chip Miller, of Art In Public Places, have been commissioned to transform the facade of Dobbins Drugs
and The Old Pharmacy Gift Shoppe in Lyons, N.Y. Dobbins Drugs has been located on William Street in Lyons for three generations – more than 50 years.

The mural application will bring back the past with an architectural trompe l'oeil painting that mimics the grand architecture of the building, which was built in the 19th century as an opera house. Ornate faux brick and limestone will adorn the building, including false windows looking into an old pharmacy populated by past generations of Lyons residents.

Art In Public Places has created murals all over the Central New York region for nearly 25 years. Miller and Goss, both master of fine arts graduates of Syracuse University, are also local art teachers – Miller at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Goss at Cazenovia College.

Mark DeCracker, president of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce, created Mural Mania, a program that uses murals as part of a region-wide tourism and beautification effort, with emphasis on the history of the Erie Canal, education, and art. DeCracker introduced Goss and Miller to Dr. Sean Dobbins, the third generation of his family to work as a pharmacist at the store.

Miller and Goss have another project underway at RRM Safety Center in East Syracuse, N.Y. a warehouse outfitted with numerous life-size, hands-on safety training stations. For more information, contact Corky Goss at 315-655-7246.
