ROME, NY – The SUNYIT baseball team closed out its regular season conference action with a split against Cazenovia College, handily winning game one 9-1 before falling 8-3 in an error-filled game two Friday at Delutis Field.

SUNYIT (15-19) is now 6-6 in the NEAC West and hold the fourth and final playoff spot heading into the final week of the regular season, while Cazenovia (6-20) is 3-5 in the NEAC and currently in fifth place with two more conference doubleheaders to go.

Like the team has done many times this season, the Wildcats put game one away with one huge inning, scoring five runs in the sixth to add to their 4-1 lead and seal the victory.  The entire SUNYIT lineup registered a hit on the day, collecting 15 in all while also taking advantage of four Cazenovia errors.

Junior Dan Orza (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) continued his recent tear at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.  Sophomore Devon Frye (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) and freshman Chandler Evans (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) both drove in two runs, with Frye also collecting two hits.  Sophomore David Golembiowski (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) pitched a complete game, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out nine batters.

Dan Wood hit a solo homerun to produce the only run for Cazenovia.

SUNYIT was much less sharp in game two, committing four errors and giving up six unearned runs despite out-hitting Cazenovia 11-7.  Cazenovia would be up 3-0 after four innings of play, and would double its lead with three runs in the fifth, one on a wild pitch and two more on a fielding error.

After Cazenovia scored two more unearned runs in the sixth, the Wildcats would produce all three of its runs in the bottom of the seventh before their rally fell short.

Orza drove in two runs in the ninth, while junior Matt Faboskay (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and one run scored.

Erich Lange drove in a run and scored two more for Cazenovia, while Bryan Wilgocki had an RBI and one run scored.  Justin Teator went the distance and struck out four to earn the win.
