Baseball Splits with Cobleskill; Harrisburg at Home Tomorrow

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Cazenovia College baseball team won the opening game of a doubleheader with SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon, 3-1, but lost in game two, 6-3.

The split puts the Wildcats at 7-21 overall and 4-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with their final regular season doubleheader coming tomorrow at home against conference foe Penn State Harrisburg. Cobleskill is now 8-21 overall and 3-9 in the league.

Derrek Root (Marathon, N.Y.) had a perfect game at the plate in the opener, going 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run to lead the Wildcats. Chris Fantacone (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Brandon Goodman (Clinton, N.Y.) both went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Cazenovia denied the Fighting Tigers any runs until they finally brought one across in their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. Credit that effort to Tim Nye (Chesterfield, Mass.), who threw six and two-third innings with six strikeouts before Joe Pallone (Liverpool, N.Y.) came in for the final out.

In game two, Fantacone, Dan Wood (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Kyle Brisson (Waterford, N.Y.) all registered two hits. Wood also drove in two runs on a double and Brisson brought one in on a single. Josh Tucker (West Monroe, N.Y.) gave up six earned runs and seven hits in four innings of work in the loss.
