Budney retired in 2002 from the presidency and directorship of Niagara Mohawk Holdings. He was president and director of Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., and held executive positions with UtiliCorp United and Missouri Public Service in Kansas City, Mo.

He serves on the board of directors for Integrys Energy, Chicago, Ill. He previously served as director of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, Birmingham, Ala.; the Syracuse Opera Company; and as chairman of the board of the United Way of Central New York.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Princeton University and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University.

Budney and his wife, Rev. Karen V. Budney, received the 2003 Good Samaritan Award from Syracuse’s Samaritan Center. Budney is a member of the Onondaga Golf and Country Club in Fayetteville, N.Y.; the Nassau Club of Princeton, in Princeton, N.J.; the Mountain Lake Club in Lake Wales, Fla.; and the Dedham Country and Polo Club in Dedham, Mass. In his leisure time, he enjoys golf and travel.
