Resume Headings

Headings on a resume categorize your information by education, experience, and various related activities such as volunteer and internship experience. Select headings to be used on your resume that best highlight your achievements and experiences that are relevant to the position you are applying for.

Name
Be sure to list your full name (no nickname) or the name by which you are referred. Some job-seekers prefer to use their middle initial, but it is not required.

Contact Information
Provide your current mailing address, city, state, zip, telephone and cell phone number. Include your e-mail address. Employers need to be able to reach you and you need to be available to talk with them. Make sure all your information is current.

Telephone
Be sure that your voice message is business-like and appropriate.

Email
Be sure that you have an e-mail address that is professional. Create a separate account if necessary for your job search correspondence.

Website
If you have a website that is appropriate for your job search process, include the web address with the rest of your identification information. A website can act as an additional “plug” for your qualifications. (Websites should only be used if they are professional and promote you as a job seeker. Do not display personal information such as marital status, family photographs, and/or religious activities from any of the links on your website.
