Anita Welych was born in Syracuse NY, the daughter of Colombian and Ukrainian immigrants. She attended Cornell University on a scholarship, winning a Fulbright Grant to study in Bogota, Colombia. She lived there for 5 1/2 years, teaching art and exhibiting actively. She returned to the United States to pursue an MFA in Painting at Syracuse University, then began teaching at Cazenovia College. She was awarded another Fulbright Grant to Colombia, this time for teaching, in 1995. While in Colombia, she taught at two major universities and lectured at several others across the country. She has also traveled frequently to work at an art center outside Barcelona, Spain. She lives in Central New York and maintains an active exhibition schedule.
