Cazenovia College's new athletic field enables the College to increase opportunities for both Division III varsity student-athletes and intramural student-athletes. Known as Christakos Field, the venue enhances student-athlete recruiting efforts, reduces costs associated with holding practices and playing home games several miles from campus, fosters community partnerships, and leverages a growing regional sporting event economy.

In all, approximately 130 intercollegiate student-athletes have a direct benefit from the new field, as do more than 33% of the student body who participate in intramurals and informal athletics. In addition, the beneficial influence on the teaching mission for students and faculty is undeniable. Time saved in travel to and from off-site fields is now allocated to the classroom, lab, and studio. Significant giving opportunities remain for taking the new field to the next level. Plans for a press box, bleachers, score board, and field maintenance are a part of the overall aim to make the turf field commensurate with student, parent, and coaching staff expectations for sporting facilities at the collegiate level.

Along with the positive effect that the field has on alumni, students, parents, faculty, and staff, it also enables the College to expand its programming to community residents and the broader region. When the field is not in use by the College, youth sports leagues as well as middle school and high school teams have access to the turf field for practice and play. There is also potential use by local sports organizations for league tournaments and special events, which would contribute to the growing regional sporting economy.
