What are employers looking for when hiring college grads?
According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers rate the following as the most important skills/qualities for candidates to possess: communication skills, honesty/integrity, teamwork skills, strong work ethic, analytical skills, flexibility/adaptability, interpersonal skills, motivation/initiative.

Employers would rather hire someone they know, or someone who is vouched for by someone they respect. By using your own contact network, people you know (friends, family, job supervisors) may connect you to key people in a company or industry that you're interested in working with.  A student who is bold enough to make a cold contact can also impress a potential employer.  For more information about networking, job searching, and interviewing, stop by the Career Services Office at 7 Nickerson Street.

So before you send out your first resume or post it on that “can’t miss” job board, consider this fact:  75% of all jobs are not advertised.  Therefore, it is important to network and make professional connections throughout your college career, and to keep building that network as you begin your career.
