Cazenovia, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2014) – Cazenovia College Sport Management majors have been preparing for the “big game” for months. Beginning this Wednesday, eight students from the program will be headed to New York to volunteer for numerous events and activities associated with Super Bowl Week. According to Dr. Michelle Brimecombe
, assistant professor and director of the Sport Management Program at Cazenovia College, “our students will be working the NFL Experience events and concerts on Super Bowl Boulevard, checking IDs, providing information and directions to attendees, and playing a key role in ensuring a positive fan experience.”
Those Cazenovia College students participating include:
- Mike Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY)
- Jake Bryant (Belmont, NH)
- Will Hadersbeck (Schenectady, NY)
- Casey MacClaren (Holley, NY)
- Devin Purcell (Cobleskill, NY)
- Don Radell (Syracuse, NY)
- Jon Waiksnoris (Niskayuna, NY)
- Kayla Warner (Acra, NY)
As described by NFL.com, “For four exciting days, Super Bowl Boulevard Engineered by GMC is the biggest and brightest show on Broadway. Spanning thirteen blocks (from 34th to 47th streets) along one of the world's most famous streets, the Boulevard is the epicenter for NFL fans during Super Bowl XLVIII celebrating all things football. Fans from all over the world and residents of the region will stop by to engage with the NFL, the New York/New Jersey Host Committee and the League's broadcasting partners and sponsors.”

Students were encouraged by their professor at the beginning of the fall 2013 semester to apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity. “They took advantage of an opportunity presented to them: they applied, gave up a weekend in November to attend the orientation/training session in New York, and ultimately earned this chance to add to their sport management experience base,” said Dr. Brimecombe, who stressed that the students will be working the weekend, even while the game is being played. She added, “Our students understand that the spectators will be watching the Super Bowl; they will be doing their jobs.”
