Cazenovia College’s fall musical, Working, promises to bring a combination of contemporary musical theater, pop, and folk music to the stage. The musical, to feature songs from renowned composer Stephen Schwartz, of Wicked, Pippin and Godspell fame, will also include music from James Taylor, Craig Carnelia and Lin Manuel Miranda, composer of Broadway’s In the Heights.
Working is based on the Studs Terkel book "Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do" and will present a collection of vignettes exploring people's feelings about their jobs, careers, and lives. David Lowenstein, Cazenovia College’s artist in residence, will direct the company made up of Cazenovia College students, local middle school students and adults from the Cazenovia community. According to Lowenstein, “This show, which originally opened in 1978, had a Drama Desk Award winning production last year off-Broadway. Working has been updated to reflect the current economic times and unemployment situation in the nation.”
Performances are scheduled for November 15-17, and November 21, 23 and 24. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 8 p.m., with the Sunday presentations starting at 2 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for children age 12 & under; and $3 for Cazenovia College students.
