Event Date(s):

Dorion Germany

Dedicated to the service of others and "defending those who defend America," Cazenovia College alumnus Major Dorion Germany will return to his alma mater to address the members of the Class of 2013 at Cazenovia College’s 188th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Germany, a major in the United States Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, is the officer in charge of a trial defense service unit where he oversees the operations of approximately 160 JAG defense attorneys and paralegals. After graduating from Cazenovia College with an associate's degree in 1990 and a bachelor's degree in 1992, Germany completed graduate level study at Syracuse University, where he received his Juris Doctor and a master's degree in public administration. He briefly worked at a New York City law firm in the early 1990s and at Mellon Financial Corporation, working in law pertaining to standards and regulations for employee retirement, pension and health plans in the private industry.

The events of September 11, 2001, prompted Germany to want do more; in 2002 he joined the United States Army. Germany anticipated a short stint in the military; instead he found a fulfilling and exciting career in military law. After completing basic training, Germany attended the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School at the University of Virginia; engaged in a tour of duty with the second infantry division at Camp Casey in South Korea; and in 2004 served as a prosecutor for the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Germany recently returned home after a deployment in Iraq and shared that "the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." A former trustee of the College, Germany was quoted back in Cazenovia College’s spring 2006 magazine, stressing that "Caz was the best time of my life ... Cazenovia College is an institution I am dearly committed to and I look forward to doing my part to ensure it continues to be a very healthful, vital institution - one that continuously strives to improve the educational experience of its students and one that also seeks to better engage and reconnect alumni to their college."
