Making a Referral

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday when the College is in full session.

The Counseling Center generally operates on an appointment basis. Students who want an initial meeting with a counselor should call Todd Spangler, PhD (x 7121) or Nancy Adamy, LCSW (x 7253) or stop by to make an appointment.

Appointments are sometimes available the same day and almost always within 5 business days. After the first appointment, the counselor and student collaborate to determine the best course of action.

There is a counselor on-call outside of office hours, but this service is only for emergencies. If you are unsure about whether or not an emergency exists, please consult with the Residence Life staff or security personnel, who can page a counselor if necessary. (Call Campus Security at x7271.)

Emergencies are accommodated as soon as possible, and same-day appointments are typically arranged. For non-emergency situations, appointments are recommended.

Counselors are available to consult about concerns in dealing with a particular person. Consider helping the student make an appointment, perhaps by walking with him/her to the Counseling Center, or letting him/her call from your office.

Once a referral is made, communication between the individual and the Counseling Center is confidential. You may be curious and feel unfinished in your work with him/her, but you may have to let it be that way as the student begins to work with a professional counselor.
