Our Human Services program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. As a student in our program, you have access to many opportunities for assisting children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings such as alcohol and substance abuse, mental health services, foster care, social services, disabilities, elder and health care.
To reflect the diverse nature of the field of human services, our program offers a choice of four concentrations so you can design your academic experience to fit your career goals.
The Social Services for Children and Youth concentration of the Human Services program provides students with an overview of services available for children and adolescents. Leading to a Bachelor of Science degree, the program's curriculum addresses issues related to current social services and counseling practices, providing you with a base knowledge about the systems and services related to children and adolescents.
- Provide you with an understanding of the social services system;
- Develop your understanding of basic counseling skills and approaches for children and adolescents;
- Develop your understanding of child development theory and childhood disorders; and
- Prepare you for the professional social service and counseling environments.

- Students may also be interested in earning a minor in psychology, sociology, pre-art therapy, criminal justice or other minors.

Our students have found internships or employment for organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, Catholic Charities, Cayuga Counseling Center, Crouse Community Center for Seniors, Department of Social Services, Elmcrest Children's Center, Headstart, Hutchings Psychiatric Center, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, the Salvation Army and The Rescue Mission.
- Students must earn a minimum grade of a "C" in each 100-200-level Human Services course;
- Students must have earned at least 30 academic hours to be eligible for internship;
- Students may repeat 100/200-level Human Services courses in which they first earned a grade less than "C" only once; students who cannot achieve a grade of "C" or above on the second attempt may not continue in the program; and
- Students must complete 12 credit hours of internship experience in the field of children and youth services.
