Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a way for the library to help you get materials from other libraries when we don't have what we need here at the College.

Policies and Procedures
The library uses a system known as ILLiad. To use this system, patrons have to create an ILLiad account. Users are limited to 10 active requests at a time. Delivery time depends on a number of factors including whether the material requested is a book or a photocopy and where the library is able to obtain it from.

Articles
For articles, delivery may be within a few hours or up to several weeks. Articles will be delivered either to your campus mailbox if they are sent to us in the regular mail or delivered electronically, in which case you will get an email with instructions on how to retrieve the material. Electronically delivered materials are automatically deleted from the ILLiad system after 30 days, so be sure to check your email if you are expecting an article. Articles are yours to keep once you have received them.

Copyright Restrictions
Due to copyright law, the library can only order five articles from the same publication within a calendar year for materials less than five years old.  If this is a problem please see a librarian. We may be able to order materials for you, but there will be a fee of $25 or more per article for copyright clearance.

Books
For books, delivery may be as few as two days, or may be up to several weeks, again depending on where the library is able to obtain the material from. Books (or other loaned materials) will have a due date, by which they must be returned or renewed. Loaned materials may only be picked up and returned at the reference office.  Materials will be held for pickup for seven days.  Failure to pick up materials may result in loss of ILL privileges.  If you no longer need an item you ordered, please let us know.

Renewals
Loaned materials all have a due date, determined by the lending library. If you need the material past the due date, a renewal can be requested in ILLiad, and it will be up to the lending library to decide whether or not the material is renewed. If a renewal is denied, and you still need the material, please stop by the library and speak with one of the librarians. In some cases, we are able to order a different copy of the same material, so that you are able to continue your work by returning the copy that is due and swapping it for a copy from another library.

Fees and Fines
The library does not charge for ILL and always attempts to find libraries that will not charge. In the rare case that we are unable to locate a library with the requested material that will not send for free, we will contact you to ask if you are willing to pay to get the material.

The fee for overdue ILL books is $110, which will be placed on your account. If a book is more than 30 days late, replacement fees will be charged in addition to the late fees. The replacement fees will be determined by the lending library and will generally be the cost to replace the book, as well as processing fees. Abuse of the ILL service or failure to return items on time may result in losing ILL borrowing privileges.
