Richard L. "Dick" Smith, Cazenovia College Trustee
From the beginning of his tenure with the Cazenovia College Board of Trustees in 2001, Richard L. “Dick” Smith’s dedication and support of institution has been exemplary. He served as a member of the board of trustees from 2001 – 2010, during which he was chair from 2008 – 2010. Smith rejoined the board in 2011 and served as chair from 2016 – 2019. In 2010, he created the Richard L. and Anne T. Smith Scholarship for Excellence in History. In recognition of his many years of service and support, the College recently named the Richard L. Smith Presidential Conference Room in his honor.

Smith is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A. 1968) and Cornell University Law School (J.D. 1971), Order of the Coif. He was a practicing attorney and partner at Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, for more than forty-three years and served as chair of the firm’s Administrative-Legislative-Regulatory practice group and as a member of its executive committee. He has been selected as a New York State “Super Lawyer.” In addition, Smith was elected a fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and chaired the New York Bar Association Legislative Policy Committee for fifteen years. He was a member of the New York State Secretary of State’s Corporation Advisory Task Force and chair of the Interagency Subcommittee for thirteen years.

Smith is a member of the American, New York State, Albany County, and Onondaga County bar associations and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Commercial Arbitrators. He also served as a member of Le Moyne College’s Board of Regents for nine years.
