
Smith is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A. 1968) and Cornell University Law School (J.D. 1971), Order of the Coif. He was a practicing attorney and partner at Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, for more than forty-three years and served as chair of the firm’s Administrative-Legislative-Regulatory practice group and as a member of its executive committee. He has been selected as a New York State “Super Lawyer.” In addition, Smith was elected a fellow of the New York Bar Foundation and chaired the New York Bar Association Legislative Policy Committee for fifteen years. He was a member of the New York State Secretary of State’s Corporation Advisory Task Force and chair of the Interagency Subcommittee for thirteen years.
Smith is a member of the American, New York State, Albany County, and Onondaga County bar associations and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Commercial Arbitrators. He also served as a member of Le Moyne College’s Board of Regents for nine years.
Dick Smith is a true friend of the College and has excelled as a member of the institution’s governing body. He is worthy not only of our admiration and praise, but also of the signal recognition conferred by the doctor of humane letters degree, honoris causa.
