Cazenovia College has expanded their Bachelor of Science program in Human Services to include a fully online option. The new program will be offered this upcoming academic year through the College’s Center for Adult and Continuing Education on a part-time basis.

The Human Services Generalist program provides students with an overview on issues including alcohol and substance abuse, mental health services, foster care, social services, disabilities, elder and health care. Students can select from a combination of courses within the curriculum to address specific fields of interests.

“There is a lot of flexibility and individualization designed into the program to meet the needs of working professionals, parents raising children and even students in rural areas that may have limited access to educational opportunities,” stated Carla DeShaw, director of Continuing Education, Cazenovia College. “It is also ideal for transfer students who are interested in completing their course work fully online.”

Students can take up to three classes per semester with the ability to take courses during the summer and winter to still graduate in four years while going part-time. While earning their bachelor’s degree, students can also earn 350 hours for eligibility toward their certification for substance abuse counselor trainee (CASAC-T).

“The need for practitioners is critical as the Bureau for Labor Statistics projects that the need for Mental Health counselors and workers will increase by 25 percent through the year 2029,noted DeShaw. We hope to address some of this need through our online program providing an option for students who would like to work in human services to obtain a bachelor’s degree without sacrificing work, family and locale.

Cazenovia College’s Bachelor of Science in Human Services online program is only a change of delivery with no curricular change. All the course work is fully online with in person internships providing students the opportunity to experience the real work world.
