While classes may look different this semester, our dedication and support for learning are as strong as ever.  New for the Fall 2020 semester, Cazenovia College has adopted Canvas, a top-ranked learning management system (LMS), that will replace Blackboard.  Canvas offers many new features that support student learning and success including access to a mobile application and student access to 24/7 help resources for technical support.

The adoption of Canvas helps to support the College’s social distancing safety policies for classrooms and student/faculty communications.  The LMS allows Cazenovia’s faculty to organize learning materials in a digital (no contact) environment. Students will find their instructor’s contact information and syllabus posted in Canvas.  Depending on the modality of the course (traditional with social distancing, hybrid, or online) faculty may choose to utilize other features of Canvas such as assignment submissions, quizzes, sharing lecture slides, communication, and more.  This semester many courses will also utilize streaming video services for synchronous learning, virtual office hours, and group meetings.

As a companion to Canvas, Cazenovia College students continue to have a subscription to Microsoft Office 365.  This includes cloud-based access to software applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook as well as digital collaboration space with Microsoft Teams.  Teams provides a platform for easy video communication and screen sharing for small groups or an entire class.

Students can access Canvas by signing in to myCaz and clicking on the Teaching & Learning Technologies button. Office 365 applications are also linked from the myCaz intranet.  Students are invited to visit our Canvas@Caz Student Resources website for access to text and video guides for assistance getting started with using Canvas, and to learn more about Microsoft Teams.  If prompted, sign in using your Cazenovia College student username and password.

If students would like to experience using a robust Canvas course, they can enroll in Passport to Canvas.  This self-paced course is designed to provide students with an overview of everything Canvas can do. Students will see some, but not all the Canvas features introduced in the self-paced course used during the 2020-21 academic year. Feature use will vary depending on the type of course (traditional with social distancing, hybrid, or online) and the instructor’s course design. Students will find the link to Passport to Canvas on our Canvas@Caz Student Resources website.  If prompted, sign in using your Cazenovia College student username and password.
