Cazenovia College is requiring COVID-19 booster vaccinations for all eligible students returning to campus and for all employees as the Spring 2022 semester gets underway in the new year.
Students returning for the spring semester who are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster vaccination will either need to have received their vaccination booster or must have scheduled an appointment to receive the booster shot by the time they return to campus. In either case, students are required to have received the booster no later than Friday, January 21, unless they have a previously approved exemption from the vaccine.
The requirement is in place for employees of the college, as well. Employees are requested to receive their booster shots as soon as possible and by January 21 at the latest.
Vice President for Student Affairs Karey Pine said the decision continues the College’s successful “Caz Strong” commitment to health and safety protocols that have helped to support the health and safety of the campus community throughout the pandemic.
Students and employees may request exemptions from the vaccination for medical or religious reasons and must file a formal request with documentation for exemption consideration. Those who received an exemption to the COVID-19 vaccination in the fall semester do not now need to renew their exemption status or provide new documentation for the spring semester, Pine said.
Campus Booster Vaccination Clinic
To help assure that students and employees have access to the booster shot, the College is working with the Madison County Health Department to bring a COVID immunization clinic to the campus on Wednesday, January 19.
More information will be sent to students soon regarding how they can submit their documentation of having received a booster shot, or how to schedule a booster vaccination appointment for the on-campus clinic, Pine added.
Employees will also be receiving communication regarding the on-campus clinic schedule, and how to submit documentation of their booster immunization.
The College’s spring semester starts in mid-January of 2022. Students will receive information by email the week of January 10 to schedule an arrival and move-in time between Saturday, January 15 and Monday, January 17. Classes are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 18.
Individuals are eligible to receive a booster vaccination six months after the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and two months after the first dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
New York State is offering mass vaccination sites where individuals can walk in without appointments, including the site at the New York Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Information on registering for vaccination sites at other locations is available at this Center for Disease Control (CDC) link.
Students attending classes on Cazenovia College satellite campuses should review and follow expectations specific to the satellite campus’ protocols for attendance in the spring semester.
The College will continue to monitor guidance issued by the Center for Disease Control as well as New York State and local public health agencies.
