Students attending Cazenovia College will have a third semester-abroad option next fall when Greece is added as a new study-abroad site.
Cazenovia College has partnered with Hellenic American University (HAU) in Athens, Greece, to provide semester-long study abroad programs and other international exchange opportunities. Currently, Cazenovia offers students two other study abroad options: fall terms in either Canterbury, England, at Canterbury Christ Church University, or in Nagoya, Japan, at Nagoya Gakuin University’s Institute for Japanese Study.
Hellenic American University is a private, non-profit university chartered in the state of New Hampshire in 2004, and fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. It offers programs in Business, Engineering, Language, Music, and Psychology. Most courses are offered at the campus in the heart of Athens, and all courses are taught in English. Students will be able to remain fully enrolled at Cazenovia College during their time abroad, with the ability to easily match coursework at HAU with their degree requirements. HAU will also sponsor opportunities for students to travel throughout the country and be immersed in the culture and history of Greece.
The Athens campus environment is much like Cazenovia’s, according to Charles Harcourt, Cazenovia College associate director for Graduate and International Programs. It features a small campus community, seminar-style classes, faculty who are passionate about teaching, and a supportive learning environment that favors engaged learning.
As the new arrangement with Hellenic American University develops, Cazenovia College hopes to expand cross-cultural engagement and programming to include other opportunities. These may include hosting Greek exchange students on the Cazenovia campus, offering Cazenovia students short-term study trips to Greece, and encouraging faculty collaborations, Harcourt said.
