William G. Veit of Syracuse has joined Cazenovia College as Vice President for Finance/Chief Financial Officer.
A longtime area business executive and financial services director, Veit succeeds Mark Edwards, who retired in December.
Veit is acquainted with the College from his role as a senior risk management consultant at FoxPointe Solutions, a division of The Bonadio Group, of Syracuse. He worked there from 2019 to 2021, when The Bonadio Group served as the College’s audit firm. He also has previous experience in higher education, having served at SUNY Cortland as risk management officer and director from 2015-2019. There, he directed the College’s internal controls and enterprise risk management (ERM) program. He also developed the College’s first risk management plan, led the ERM internship program, chaired the College’s risk management steering committee, developed a course syllabus on enterprise risk management and insurance, and was a guest speaker for several Strategic Management senior level classes.
Veit noted, “while I always enjoyed consulting with clients in information security controls and awareness, COVID caused me to re-think my priorities and think about who I want to serve in my career, now and long into my future. I decided earlier this year that if given the right opportunity and challenge, I might head back into higher education. Serving students at Caz College will be a top priority, I am truly looking forward to getting to know our students through internship and work study programs. I am only a week into this role, and the Business Office team has already come up with a few ideas for student projects!”
From 2011 to 2014, Veit was chief executive officer and president at Badoud Enterprises, Inc., in Syracuse, where he was charged with improving cash flow and business operations during periods of change and downturns in the print media business and rise in internet-based and social media publishing industry. He previously worked at that company as its chief financial officer (1992 to 2011) and for several years before that, as controller, machine tool division controller, and internal auditor. Veit also worked at KPMG International in Syracuse as a staff accountant.
In addition to his expertise in accounting, information technology, credit and collection, internal control environment, and payroll and cash management systems, Veit has many years of experience leading business operations. He has successfully identified change opportunities and implemented internal efficiency and effectiveness improvement processes, restructured debt, consolidated business divisions, acquired companies, managed customer relationships, conducted enterprise resource planning, and developed targeted growth plans to improve business lines and revenues.
He was named recipient of the Chief Financial Officer of the Year Award from the Central New York Business Journal and Biz Eventz in 2009 and was in the top three nominees for the honor the prior year.
Veit earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from LeMoyne College in 1984 and his master’s in business administration from there in 2005. He has Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and FEMA ICS 100 certifications. He has continued his education through professional conference presentations and writings, especially in the areas of cybersecurity awareness and tactics, and remote workforce risk threats and opportunities. He also recently presented at State University of New York Strategic, Academic, and Innovative Leadership program, Association of College and University Auditors, and National Society of Leadership and Success conferences.
