On August 22, 2022, as part of their Convocation Ceremony, Cazenovia College will formally install Dr. David Bergh as the 30th president of the College. The formal inauguration ceremony is free and open to the public at 3:00 p.m. on the campus Quad.
Dr. Bergh was appointed interim president of Cazenovia College on January 15, 2022 and was named president by a unanimous decision of the College Board of Trustees at the Board’s February 2022 quarterly meeting.
After Dr. Bergh takes the Oath of Office, Cazenovia College Chair of the Board of Trustees, Kenneth C. Gardiner, will bestow on him the College Medallion and officially declare Dr. Bergh as president. The installation ceremony holds several traditions, including the display of academic regalia and the presentation of ceremonial objects like the College mace and medallion.
Once installed, Dr. Bergh will address those in attendance and welcome new students into the Cazenovia College community and to the 2022-2023 academic year. Also, speaking at the ceremony will be Francine Varisco, professor of Business Management and 2022 Distinguished Faculty Member, and Megan Dwyer, president of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. A reception will follow the Convocation ceremony.
Dr. Bergh joined the College in 2016 as vice president of planning and institutional effectiveness. In 2019 he was promoted to executive vice president. Prior to Cazenovia College, Bergh was dean of student life and college relations and held other student-focused roles during his 19-year tenure at Johnson State College in Vermont.
A Central New York native, Dr. Bergh has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Allegheny College, a Master of Public Administration degree in Public Management from the State University of New York at Albany, and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont.
In the community, Dr. Bergh is president of the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association. He is a former co-facilitator for Cazenovia Welcomes Refugees and has served on the board of the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event will be broadcast live on the Cazenovia College YouTube channel for those who cannot make it to the campus to attend. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the upper gym of the Athletic Center.
