Dr. David Bergh, a member of the College’s executive and leadership teams who has been at the College since 2016, has been named the 30th president of Cazenovia College. He was named to the president’s role in a unanimous decision of the College Board of Trustees at the Board’s quarterly meeting this past weekend.

Dr. Bergh has been serving as interim president since mid-January following the retirement of previous president Dr. Ron Chesbrough. The appointment takes effect immediately.

The move is an action that College Board of Trustees Chair Kenneth Gardiner says displays trustees’ utmost confidence in the professionalism, skills, values, ideas, and energy of Dr. Bergh, and in his ability to lead the College’s next phase of growth. That period will encompass a re-imagining of the college’s future and the development of additional revenue streams to support the institution’s financial position, Gardiner said.

“We quickly recognized that in Dr. Bergh, we already had in place an experienced, proven leader and the right person to head the College for these times. He knows this institution and understands what we’re about. He has the intellectual, executive, and visionary capacities needed to pave new paths to growth and to entertain new ideas to cement long-term stability. He has been integral to critical initiatives such as long-term strategic planning, relationship-building with financial backers, bond refinancing, and Middle States Commission on Higher Education re-accreditation. He is also already part of and is well-known and respected in the Cazenovia community. We’re ready to have Dr. Bergh’s energy and vision permanently move the College forward on several key endeavors,” Gardiner added.

Honored and Ready

Dr. Bergh said he is honored by and appreciative of the Board’s vote of confidence, and that he looks forward to continuing several initiatives that have been in planning as ways to secure the College’s best financial, student enrollment, and academic future.

“The Board, the College leadership team, and I have been working together diligently to create new paths to growth and to develop stability in ways that are consistent with our core mission and that provide equivalent benefit for the Cazenovia community. We are re-engaging with community members and groups as well as developing some new national partners to generate potential new avenues of revenue and growth. It’s an exciting time here, and I am committed to helping Cazenovia continue as the vibrant, contributing anchor institution and treasure that it is, especially as we approach our Bicentennial in 2024,” Dr. Bergh said.
