Why Cazenovia College?
I was a part of the Summer Experience program here and really loved it. I started talking with Anita [Welych] who was one of the professors for the program and she asked me, “Where are you going? What are you doing?” and I told her that I was accepted and had actually already paid the deposit for another school. She told me “I think you belong here,” and the more time I spent on campus, the more I thought “Yeah, I think I belong here too.” In a matter of a week, I was talking to Admissions and changing my whole life to come here.
Why Studio Art?
I’ve always been creative, but the only art class I took in high school was online. I was actually going to be a Liberal Arts and Science major at my original school, but the Summer Experience program really showed me how I can take my ideas and the ways I was being naturally creative and apply them to physical pieces of art which was really cool.
What I enjoy most about the Studio Art program is the professors and the students. Everyone’s so willing to help one another. Even during Finals week, everyone will bounce ideas off each other and work together and that kind of support really helps you move forward with confidence in your ideas.
Experience as a Master Student
I had a really challenging Fall 2019 semester, but I had the amazing opportunity to be a Master Student for a Kiln-Formed Glass class. I don’t want to be cliché, but I’m going to be – it was so rewarding. Being able to teach someone what you’ve learned and watch them go through the same trial and error process and see a whole project through was really cool.
Future Plans
I’m not really sure right now. I’ve still got a little bit of time to figure things out, but I think I really do like teaching. That’s something that’s always been in the back of my mind.
Advice to Future Students
Trust your professors. Trust your advisors. The more you share with them and the more you talk to them, the better they get to know you and the easier it’ll be for them to help lead you in the right direction. Even if you don’t know what that direction is or where to start, just start talking to someone here. I guarantee that they’ll help connect you with someone that’ll help you get somewhere
